"Karyn Emily Becker Grigsby, 41, died Saturday, September 12 in Capitola after a fall from the cliffs. She is survived by her mother, Leigh Becker of Capitola, her sister, Laurie Otto of Hayden, Idaho and her ex-husband and dear friend, Grant Grigsby of Felton. She is also survived by her aunt, Bonnie Gorman of Salinas, uncles David Isett of Seattle and Phil Monroe of Pacific Grove, niece Beth Grigsby of Livermore, and her cousin Erin Stesch of North Carolina.

A native of Whittier, Karyn lived in Santa Cruz over 30 years. She attended Soquel and Loma Prieta High Schools and Cabrillo College. She worked as a secretary for Dr. Greg Katz in Santa Cruz for many years. A longtime member of AA. Karyn also loved rabbits and donated countless hours to Rabbit Haven."

With friends all over the nation, Karyn was loved by many. Her passing is not only a loss for those of us who adored her, but it is a loss for this world. We lost a beautiful presence who brought happiness wherever she went. She always had a joke to share or a story to brighten our moods. We will never know how much of her time was dedicated to the happiness of others, but we will always remember when we were the lucky ones to receive her love. Her memory will be cherished, and her love will live in our hearts forever.

Karyn was my best friend in Jr High. She was so silly and goofy and always making everyone laugh!! I am so sad that we did not remain close after high school but she always had a special place in my world. My life was forever changed by her. I was reunited with a long lost friend from Jr High by the passing of another friend and was told about Karyn. I am in shock and cannot begin to express my saddness for all her friends and family. She is now with Kenny Ray, Rod and Chad and watching over us.

Karyn, I love you and may peace be with you!

I've never laughed so much

Karyn was funny. There has never been a person funnier than Karyn. I laughed my way through the two years I knew her. She had a gift and I am still stunned speechless that she is no longer with us. Wherever she is now, someone is laughing and smiling and blessed to be with her. I sincerely hope she has found peace and bliss and I wish the same for all of her family and friends. She was a light on this earth and she will be deeply missed.

Karyn

I am still almost speechless from shock. I met Karyn online almost 5 years on the Kathy Griffin boards. She and Reagan helped me upload some pictures of my pups. After that I would get an email and then after I got MySpace it was like being in touch daily. This woman who I never met in person became a dear friend at some point. She listened to me cry when I lost my little dachshund of 17 yrs, GunnarMack, she listened to me cry some more when I found out last year I had a terminal illness. I wish she had cried on my shoulders but she was always so cheerful, upbeat, funny & sarcastic and now she is gone and we are all so much poorer for it. Murphyturf, I know you are with Cocoa the wonder bunny now and at rest, but girl, I miss you!!

Oh Dear Karyn

I just can't believe you are gone from this world, but I know you are there with Cocoa.

I knew I loved you when you told me about Cocoa several years ago. Animal lovers are the best people in the world. When the love of my life, my cat Lucy, died four weeks ago at the age of 15 years, the email you sent me was so beautiful, I will save it and treasure it.

Although I live in Maryland now, I used to spend a lot of time in Capitola, long before I met Karen. We talked about our favorite Mexican restaurant in Capitola, she recently sent me a picture of the menu from that restaurant.

No more funny and poignant emails, no more hilarious laughter. The light has dimmed somewhat in our lives.

All my best to the many many friends of Karen.

My Dear Karyn,
You enriched my life in ways I can't even explain, as I know you did for everyone who's lives you touched.
I remember when I lost my rabbit and I told you I didn't think I would ever get over it you said:

I don't think you will either. It will get easier and you'll move on and have more buns but he was special.

That's exactly how I feel about you. I know it will get easier but you were special and I will never get over losing you.

Thank you for being my friend. Love, Ruth
